Customer Tom Lewis' review
Just back from yet another time well spent on the Conejos River. Once again, Conejos River Anglers really came through. The Conejos can be a tricky river, but the right flies, well-presented when the fish are reasonable on the feed has a good chance of producing spectacular results. This trip was no exception.
It was a little daunting to arrive and find the flows at about three times what they were the last several times I visited, but once again, a day with one of CRA's guides really paid off. I always learn something from these guys, and not just (this time) "wire worms, rubber legged stone nymphs, plenty of split shot". Indeed, as I was comparing my last morning of this trip with my first visit, circa 2007 (back before I believed that I could afford to invest a bit in my game by hiring a guide; there didn't seem to be any fish in that river!), I realized just how helpful they have been. Maybe there are a lot more fish, a lot more gullible, now than there was back then, but I don't think so. (Actually, the fish do seem healthier and more abundant now than a couple of years ago, when flows got disturbingly low.)
Fishing with guys like Scott and KK is not just a great way to crack the code of whatever the river is presenting that day. It has certainly helped me to become a better fisherman, a point that was driven home on that last morning, by the number of times I was wishing I had someone else to net a big brownie in fast water. (That would be something I still need to get better at!) Whether you are looking to solve the riddle of this seemingly fickle river, or you want to up your game, or both, I heartily recommend the guides at Conejos River Anglers.
On Thursday July 29th a friend of mine, his 14 year old daughter and I had a Guided Tour with Scott. It was a great experience and lots of fun. Scott is very knowledgeable and fun to be with. We learned a lot and had a life time experience; and we caught lots of fish too. Of course my friend's daughter caught the most. We will never forget the experience and what we learned to become better fishermen. The stories and experiences Scott told us was very entertaining too. We talked about the day and Scott all night long at camp that night. I will definitely do another tour again. Thanks for the fun.
Feedback on our excellent fly fishing experience with Conejos River Anglers. We had a wonderful time!
KK was a great guide and we appreciate all his hard work which allowed us to land the biggest fish ever! (25 & 27 inches) We plan to return for another visit and will definitely use your services again.
Very best regards, and remember chicks fly fish too!

The first episode of 2014 PFA Tour Season video series will be released in October on www.pfatour.org.
8/13/2014 -- It's a great time to get in a late summer trip to the Conejos. The summer crowds have thinned out this week and there is plenty of space to fish. I went up to the pocket water on Monday and there were very few people out. The fishing was good using g-strings, floss worms, various mayfly emergers and nymph patterns. Seeing hoppers on the lower river as well as big stonefly nymphs moving around. Lots of adults mayflys and small patterns have been turning fish on the surface.
Volunteers are needed for scorekeeper, officials, and two medical personnel. Contact Leslee Waggener at firstname.lastname@example.org or 303-917-6105.
July 22- Time to get in some fishing. We've had some great trips the last week. The fish have crushed the Drake's in the Meadow and should continue for a few more days. Fish on the lower Conejos have been keyed in on chrionocones and stoneflys. The release from Platoro is making the pocket water the place to be for the first time this summer. Give us a call to book a cabin or setup a guide trip.
The Conejos is really looking great. We had a nice runoff this year that put some water into Platora that should make for some good water flows later this summer.
We are seeing a nice Salmon fly hatch going in the fly water. We have had some very production guide trips this week with anglers catching fish on big dry flies! Lots of Caddis and stonefly nymphs working as well.
Give me a call and get over and get in some fishing, The Los Pinos has a flow of 55 cfs and is also fishing great.
Get a chance give us a call and book some time with us. The cabins and guides all have holes in the schedule in May and early June. Most of Colorado will be blown out with heavy runoff for the next 6 weeks while the Conejos drainage with the convenience of the dam at Platoro will run clear and fish well with no crowds during those 6 weeks.
Large Stoneflies are back on the Conejos. We have been seeing adults here by the shop since Saturday. The lower river has seen the fish eating the rubber legs hard in the morning. The Los Pinos and La Jara are also a good choice. Give us a call and get over to Southern Colorado and get to fishing while it hot!
Runoff is back at it. The river should start to drop and clear in the next week and give us chance to start seeing a few bugs on the surface.
FISHING REPORT Conejos River Anglers via Michael Garcia
Flows are still high, but holding steady and clearing up on the main river! Thick hatches are coming off mid-morning, with a few risers. I've been seeing grey drakes, caddis, golden stones, and salmonflies. I was throwing a dry dropper set up today, on the lower river, with various size 12 mayfly nymphs being the ticket! The main challenge continues to be accessibility, so be willing to move and cover ground. If you hook up, put the wood to 'em, max out your equipment, and don't get worked, these wild fish are strong and healthy! If you're fishing the upper river, think worms, but pay attention to what she's telling you! The fish are looking up, but still eating sub surface. Most importantly, keep it simple, and don't forget to have fun out there!!! #fishingreport #publiclandowners #conejoscounty #antonito #mogote#foxcreek #flyfishsouthernCO #getoutthere #createthehatch@conejosanglers
